making movies I'm not an actor. Not really. I've performed improv on stage but never anything scripted and definitely never in front of a camera. All that changed last weekend, when I co-starred with Robin Honan in Disarmed, a short film directed by my good buddy, Kia Simon. It's a dark yet sweet comedy. A love story with a little B.I.I.D. thrown in for good measure (B.I.I.D., or Body Integrity Identity Disorder, is the overwhelming desire to be an amputee). Kia and I came up with the original concept, and then Robin and I used improv to workshop the script. Then tons (and I do mean tons) of people contributed time, money, and gobs of talent to get to the shooting stage. We had an incredible Director of Photography and Producer and on and on. I'll write more about the film and the process later. For now, I'll leave you with a few pictures from the shoot (most of which happened in Jack London Square in Oakland).
Robin (actress), me, and Kia (director). Robin thwacked her arm (hard) against that white pole countless times.
Jack London himself. Well, a bigger, less fleshy version of Jack London. His tie sure was short!
About to start shooting the restaurant scene. Yay! The great folks at Hahn's Hibachi!
Hey, what's everyone looking at?
Oh, that. Yikes!
